Adriana Sorbo's Approach and Values

Specialized, thoughtful therapy for children and families

At the heart of my work is a deep respect for each child’s unique way of growing and learning. I believe children deserve therapy that honours their developmental needs and gently supports how they naturally communicate, process emotions, and build resilience. My approach draws on evidence-based, play-based methods, shaped by specialized training and many years of caring for children and families.

Why specialized training in child and play therapy matters

Therapy with children and adolescents is not simply adult therapy adapted for younger clients. It requires a deep understanding of child development and specialized training in approaches that are appropriate for how children experience and express their inner world.

As a Registered Play Therapist, my work is informed by advanced training in play therapy and child mental health. Play therapy is a recognized, evidence-based modality that allows children to communicate through play when words are not yet sufficient. This specialized approach supports emotional growth, self-regulation, and healing in a way that feels safe and natural for children.

A thoughtful, individualized approach to therapy

  • Registered Play Therapist with nearly 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families

  • Advanced training in play therapy, expressive arts therapy, and child mental health

  • Instructor with the Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute

  • Guest instructor in play therapy at City University

I believe that people are inherently resourceful and strive toward wellbeing. At times, children and families face challenges that exceed the tools they currently have. Therapy offers a space to gain new understanding, develop skills, and explore new ways of relating to one another.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. My work integrates evidence-based practices with careful attention to each child’s developmental stage, personality, family context, and lived experience. I aim to apply what research has shown to be effective in a way that is relational, human, and responsive.

Experience informed by practice, teaching, and supervision

My approach is shaped by extensive clinical experience and ongoing involvement in training, teaching, and professional supervision within the field of child and play therapy.
