Parent Consultations for Child and Family Concerns
Guidance and support for parents navigating challenges.
It’s natural for parents to notice changes in their child’s behaviour, emotions, or relationships and feel uncertain about how best to help. A parent consultation is a warm, welcoming space to share your questions, talk through concerns, and gain a deeper understanding of your child’s needs, with gentle guidance from a psychologist who specializes in child development.
What is a parent consultation and when is it helpful?
A parent consultation is a warm, supportive conversation with a child psychologist, designed to help you better understand your child and your family’s unique dynamics. It can be a gentle first step if you are feeling uncertain about whether therapy is needed, have questions about parenting approaches, or if your family is moving through a transition such as separation or divorce.
This service is for parents and caregivers and does not require the child to attend.
How parent consultations support children and families
Parents often seek consultations when something doesn’t feel quite right but the next step isn’t clear.
Concerns about behaviour at home or school
Questions about anxiety, big emotions, or sensitivity
Parenting disagreements or challenges with consistency
Supporting children through separation, divorce, or family changes
Understanding developmentally appropriate expectations
Deciding whether therapy or additional services may be helpful
Consultations help parents feel more confident, informed, and supported in how they respond to their child’s needs.
Guidance rooted in child development and specialized training
Parent consultations are informed by specialized training in child development, play therapy, and family systems. My approach focuses on understanding the whole child within the context of their family.
What to expect during a parent consultation session
During a parent consultation, we’ll gently talk through your concerns, your child’s developmental history, and what you’ve already tried so far. I’ll help you explore possible explanations, offer compassionate perspectives grounded in child development, and suggest caring, practical next steps.
Some families find it helpful to continue with additional consultations, while others use this time to reflect and decide whether play therapy or other supportive services might be a good fit for their child and family.
Ready to take the next step?
If you’re looking for parenting support or guidance about your child’s mental health, I invite you to book a parent consultation. Together, we’ll create a plan that helps you feel more confident and connected as a parent.
